I think that the artist of this piece did a good job of capturing the hardship felt by the Cambodian people during the Pol Pot regime by displaying the deathly thin body of a boy sitting in a prison that appears to be dark and lonely. I like how the artist cut out words and pasted them in the background and then colored over it with black charcoal. I think it gave the piece a very visually stimulating effect, however, I’m not quite sure how the words tie into the piece overall. I don’t really know the meaning that the words are supposed to convey, and how it links to the boy who is sitting on the bed. I think that the border is also unique and interestingly done as it’s not simply a wooden frame or anything, however, it looks too bright to suit the theme of the picture.
